The goal of the Southern Oregon Coalition for Racial Equity, or SOEquity, is to create an antiracist Southern Oregon.
We will do this by serving as a centralized hub for organizations, businesses, community groups, and individuals in Southern Oregon whose mission, in part or wholly, is to address and remedy the racial inequities this region faces.
We are not a direct service provider. Instead, we will focus on providing resources, training, and networking opportunities to Southern Oregon entities who wish to align their values with those of SOEquity.
The Southern Oregon Coalition For Racial Equity, or SOEquity, is committed to upholding the following values:
We are committed to antiracism. We believe that it is not enough to be race-neutral or “color-blind.” We believe that all individuals, especially white allies, must consistently work to dismantle the white supremacist system that exists in the United States.
We are committed to being an accessible organization. We will provide accommodations and tools on all resources, events, and outreach efforts connected to SOEquity to the best of our abilities.
We are a locally-focused group. We believe that there are unique challenges that exist within Southern Oregon as it relates to racial justice. We are dedicated to identifying these specific barriers and issues and providing resources and policy recommendations to fill these gaps.
We recognize that everyone in our community is harmed by white supremacy. We are dedicated to fostering an authentic knowledge of Oregon as a white supremacist State and the negative effects that this fact has on Southern Oregon communities. We believe that addressing and dismantling white supremacy benefits everyone, including white people, in our community.
We recognize that living in a Black or brown body in the United States comes with inherent trauma. We are determined to treat every life with dignity and cultivate an environment that promotes the mental and emotional well-being of all people, especially those that have inherited and lived racial trauma.
We believe in a growth mindset. We believe that everyone has the ability to learn and grow and that no one completely understands every facet of racism and white supremacy, including the members of this organization. We are dedicated to welcoming and receiving criticism and feedback from the community so that we can grow and change as the needs of our community grow and change.
